A Shabbat-observant checkout - the store stays open, payments rest

A small, self-contained plugin that automatically pauses only the checkout page on Shabbat and Jewish holidays - by your location's times, anywhere in the world - and shows visitors an elegant popup with a greeting, the reopen time and a live countdown. The rest of the site keeps working as usual.

What does the plugin do?

A real checkout pause - without closing the store.

Pauses only the checkout page

The catalog, product pages and cart stay open for browsing. Only completing a payment is paused - enforced server-side too, so it cannot be bypassed.

Computes Shabbat & holidays itself, worldwide

A built-in Hebrew calendar: candle-lighting to havdalah for the location you pick, covering Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Pesach and Shavuot, with an Israel or diaspora scheme. No external services.

An elegant popup that honors the moment

A greeting matched to the occasion - Shabbat Shalom, Chag Sameach, Shanah Tovah or G'mar Chatimah Tovah - with a short explanation, the exact reopen time and a countdown. You can also upload your own artwork.

Reminds the customer when you reopen

Visitors leave an email or WhatsApp number and get exactly one reminder the moment checkout reopens - with a link back to their cart. The order is not lost.

Why is it good for the business?

Faith without apologies

Your store proudly says: we observe Shabbat here. Customers respect a business with clear values - and remember it.

Fewer abandonments, less confusion

Instead of a checkout that silently fails and a frustrated customer - a respectful explanation, a clear reopen time and a countdown that invites them back.

The order comes back to you

The cart is saved, and the after-Shabbat reminder brings the buyer back to exactly where they stopped.

Actually closed, not just visually

The pause is enforced server-side - including express-pay buttons. Real peace of mind, no back doors.

And why doesn't it hurt organic SEO?

We checked this thoroughly. Here are the facts:

  • The checkout page is not in Google's index anyway - WooCommerce marks it noindex by default. Pausing it changes nothing for Google.
  • Every page that ranks - products, categories, blog and home - is served normally 24/7, Shabbat included. Google crawling on Shabbat sees a perfectly healthy site.
  • No popup on indexed pages - the overlay appears only on the checkout page, so there is no 'intrusive interstitial' for Google to penalize.
  • No server errors, no redirects, and no changes to product structured data (price, availability). Zero impact on site speed.

Bottom line: as far as Google is concerned the site is always open. Only the pay button rests on Shabbat.

Free. Really. In honor of Shabbat.

We give this plugin as a gift to every store that wants to observe Shabbat - no payment, no signup, no fine print. A gift from BScale, in honor of the holy Shabbat.

Frequently asked questions

Which holidays close automatically?

Both days of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret & Simchat Torah, Pesach (first and seventh) and Shavuot - with a second-day Yom Tov switch for the diaspora. And you can add any manual closure window (a fast day, a special evening, stocktaking).

What about someone mid-purchase when Shabbat begins?

Their cart is saved. The checkout shows the popup with the reopen time, and they can leave an email or WhatsApp number to get exactly one reminder when checkout reopens.

Does it work with any theme and the new checkout (Blocks)?

Yes. Both the classic checkout and Checkout Blocks are supported, including blocking express-pay buttons - independent of your theme.

Ready for the coming Shabbat?

Download, install, pick a city - and the checkout will know by itself when to rest and when to return.
